According to the U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), just about 75% of illicit drug users are employed and active in the workplace. Did you know that employing drug users can account for a $75-$100 billion loss for employers each year? This loss of money is due to on-the-job injury, accidents, and large amounts of absences, loss of productivity, compliance claims, and health care costs.

Quest Diagnostics released a report showing how drug abuse among the workforce is on a steady rise in the United States; most specifically, people are abusing prescription opiate usage. As an employer you simply cannot ignore the monetary loss drug abuse poses for you and your company. One of the best ways to combat hiring drug abusers is to administer a drug screening, for both current and potential employees; drug screening can be done randomly throughout the year, before a job offer is extended, or both.
